PROJECT DETAILS
This scheme brings a family home for a retired couple together with a contemporary flat for their adult disabled son. The spaces are linked with a double-height winter garden buffer space that maximises views to the stunningly beautiful lakeside setting. The south facing glazing is designed to harness the solar gain, while large overhangs and shading from adjacent trees successfully mitigate summer overheating. The client, a retired geologist, selected the limestone in the stonework walls and paving. This provides privacy on the most exposed corner of the site to traffic, identifies the private apartment for Andrew and act as the ‘base’ platform for the glazed elements. These simple statements are taken through in detailing with glazed balconies and limestone flooring continuing in the winter garden.
A large service space has been carved out of the bank to the rear of the dwelling, providing space for stores, and even small boats. A robust store has been dug into the bank holding the wood pellet store and boiler, which fuel the under floor heating. A new jetty and slipway provide a lovely resource for a life on the lake.
